چکیده
Abstract A theoretical framework, based on the phenomenological theory of turbulence applied to scour-related processes due plunging jets cohesionless beds, is considered in this paper. More specifically, its predictive capability assessed herein for large-scale domains, after it was developed small scales elsewhere. The analysis focuses both time-evolution process and equilibrium configuration a wide range hydraulic structures. After revisiting temporal evolution scour processes, tests investigated using unpublished experiments performed at Colorado State University by last author. These confirm existence two stages hole development, namely developing phases. Thus, dynamics large shown be consistent with that smaller scales. Then, recently introduced first three authors used predict time scour, corroborating very same equations, together coefficients, provide successful predictions, regardless scale granulometric distribution. Finally, again verified against laboratory data PK weirs obtained Pisa. Overall, work described paper offers tool general validity.

In this work, performance data from a small-scale reverse osmosis (RO) plant based on seawater FilmTec spiral wound RO membranes for different periods of operation are presented and analyzed. A prototype RO set-up with a 2,200 L/d capacity was installed and operated at Urla Bay which was located in Izmir, Turkey. This study typically investigates RO performance in terms ...

متن کاملSmall and Large Scale Granular Statics
Recent experimental results on the static or quasistatic response of granular materials have been interpreted to suggest the inapplicability of the traditional engineering approaches, which are based on elasto-plastic models (which are elliptic in nature). Propagating (hyperbolic) or diffusive (parabolic) models have been proposed to replace the ‘old’ models. Since several recent experiments we...

متن کاملUtilising Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for the Modelling of Granular Material in Large-Scale Engineering Processes
In this paper, the framework is described for the modelling of granular material by employing Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). This is achieved through the use and implementation in the continuum theory of constitutive relations, which are derived in a granular dynamics framework and parametrise particle interactions that occur at the micro-scale level. The simulation of a process often met ...
